Position Summary The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Lower School Physical Education Leave Replacement Teacher for the Fall of the 2026-2027 school year. The Lower School Physical Education program provides students with the tools necessary to make healthy decisions about exercise and future athletic and recreational activities. Our primary goal is to provide maximum opportunity for children to enjoy physical activity and realize that it is a desirable and worthwhile endeavor that they will want to continue throughout their lives.
Candidate Profile
You are a joyful educator who possesses a genuine love for working with elementary-age children and an innate ability to differentiate instruction for kids ranging from Kindergarten through Grade 5.
You are committed to mentoring young learners in a caring and innovative environment and believe that every student, regardless of athletic ability, deserves an equal opportunity to reach their potential.
As a professional with consistently high standards, you seek growth and learning every day and inspire others to do the same through your optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. Additionally, while not required, you ideally bring experience in fall sports, specifically soccer or field hockey, and are excited to share that expertise with our students.
Responsibilities
Promotes health and wellness while supporting the holistic growth of Pingry’s K-5 grade students.
Directs small and whole-class instruction with a focus on engagement and skill development.
Facilitates differentiated instruction tailored to the vast developmental spectrum of students ranging from Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Celebrates individual and collective accomplishments by teaching the importance of self-improvement and personal best.
Cultivates student awareness and ownership of personal performance and physical literacy.
Encourages teamwork to set collective and personal development goals.
Ensures accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and development of all students, regardless of their starting point.
Maintains a clean, safe, and constructive environment for all physical activities.
Communicates openly and respectfully with families, co-workers, and supervisors regarding student progress and well-being.
Supports the broader community through duties such as lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal.
Qualifications
Passionate about elementary education: Demonstrates a clear enjoyment of working with elementary-age students and understands the unique energy and needs of this age group.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Rich knowledge of disciplinary content and the specific developmental milestones of children in grades K-5.
Proven experience creating and sustaining a culture of access, equity, and inclusion for diverse constituencies.
Comfortable incorporating technology into the workflow (e.g., Google Suite, Seesaw) and adaptable to various instructional delivery methods.
Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective partnering with parents and colleagues.
Current First Aid/AED/CPR Certification.
