Job Description:
This position provides an educational environment that is safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate in which students have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. The teacher will design and implement a developmentally appropriate theatre curriculum for students in grades first through middle school, direct performances, and contribute to the community and culture of Berkeley Hall School. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator who understands the developmental needs of children and young adolescents and uses theatre as a vehicle for character development, community building and individual growth.
This position includes but is not limited to the following duties:
Instruction & Curriculum
Design and implement an engaging, developmentally appropriate theatre curriculum for students in grades 1-8.
Specialist classes with grades 1-5
Middle school elective curriculum in coordination with AHoS Middle School
Teach foundational and advanced theatre skills, including acting, improvisation, movement, voice, character development, storytelling and stagecraft.
Utilize components of a workshop classroom e.g. lesson structure, individual conferences and small group work.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Assess student growth and maintain appropriate records of student progress.
Collaborate with faculty to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
Regularly assess students, collect data and student feedback, and use it to inform instruction and curriculum development.
Student Production & Performances
Direct and produce student performances and theatrical productions throughout the school year.
Collaborate with music, visual arts and other faculty members to create meaningful performance experiences.
Oversee production planning and logistics, including rehearsal schedules, casting, communication and coordination of technical elements.
Initiate projects independently.
Is available for evening and weekend rehearsals, as required.

Build positive relationships with students and serve as a mentor, advisor, or club leader as assigned.

Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families and colleagues.
Engage with families as partners in education, including conducting parent teacher conferences.
Supervise students during recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
Professional Expectations
Participates in faculty meetings, professional development (Depth of Study) groups and other school events.
Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current in theatre arts education and best instructional practices.
Support school enrollment, admission and community-building initiatives as requested.
Fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the Employee Handbook and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts/Science degree (required), preferably in subject matter taught
Teaching Credential (preferred)
Experience teaching multiple-subjects (preferred)
Live Scan and TB clearance

Terms of Employment:
This is an exempt position. Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, long-term disability, and a retirement plan (with up to 7% employer match). Hours on campus are expected from 7:15 am–4:00 pm. As an exempt employee, work outside of these hours, including nights and weekends, may be required to fulfill the essential job functions of this position.
