The Phelps School seeks an instructor of middle and upper school sciences for the 2026-27 school year. Course assignments are flexible but would likely include Physical Science, Physics, and potentially one other elective. Class sizes are typically five to twelve students. The instructor will foster a dynamic classroom environment that is conducive to the intellectual, social, and emotional development of boys while cultivating a learning experience that motivates each student along their individual academic journey.
Teachers at Phelps serve as advisors to as many as five students and are fully involved in co-curricular programs as coaches, activity sponsors, weekend trip chaperones, and/or community service project supervisors. Some reside on campus in faculty housing and serve as dorm parents (supervisors). They are dynamic men and women dedicated to helping each boy become a better man – in and out of the classroom. They enjoy working with students in relatively small classes and engaging collaboratively in curriculum design and constant professional improvement. They strive to integrate technology into their teaching and to help improve students’ creativity and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities:
Create a dynamic classroom atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of our students.
Serve as an advisor to a group of up to six students, providing guidance and support.
Engage in co-curricular activities such as coaching, sponsoring activities, chaperoning trips, and supervising community service projects.
Teach a full course load of Science related courses.
Participate in athletics/activities for two seasons.
The teacher may have the opportunity to serve on the residential life staff, with campus housing provided. Salary and residential life responsibilities are determined accordingly.
How to Apply: Please submit a resume, cover letter, and contact information for three professional references to employment@thephelpsschool.org. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Join our team at Phelps and help shape the next generation of young men through the power of education and mentorship!
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or an Science-related field; Master's degree preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive and positive communication style.
Strong organizational, planning, time management, decision-making, and critical thinking abilities.
Ability to create inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of all students.
