Serving approximately 170 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, Dutchess Day School seeks an innovative and collaborative full-time Design & Innovation and Middle School Math Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will join a dedicated faculty committed to nurturing curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving in students.
The Design & Innovation Teacher leads the school’s program in design thinking, creative problem solving, and hands-on learning experiences for students. Working with students across multiple grade levels, the teacher will foster curiosity, experimentation, and iterative thinking while helping students develop skills in collaboration, creativity, and real-world problem solving.
In addition to leading the Design & Innovation program, the teacher will teach two middle school mathematics classes in grades 5–8, providing clear, engaging instruction that builds strong foundational understanding and encourages analytical thinking. The teacher will create a classroom environment that supports intellectual risk-taking and helps students develop confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging lessons, guiding students through project-based and design-centered learning experiences, assessing student progress, and maintaining clear and consistent communication with families about student growth and development. The teacher will collaborate closely with colleagues across disciplines and contribute positively to a collegial and supportive faculty culture.
Faculty members are expected to participate fully in the life of the school community, including school events, field trips, and occasional evening functions. Dutchess Day School supports faculty growth through collaboration, mentorship, and ongoing professional development.

Candidates should have at least 3–5 years of teaching experience and a strong understanding of the developmental needs of upper elementary and middle school students. A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required, and a master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be motivated to work collaboratively within a robust teaching team.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience teaching middle school mathematics and able to maintain high expectations while differentiating instruction
Familiarity with Singapore Math, and Amplify/Desmos preferred
Familiarity with design thinking, engineering, or maker-centered learning
Familiarity with Micro:bit, Tinkercad, and Microsoft 365 are important
Experience with FIRST Lego and Lego Spike Prime
Experience with project-based or interdisciplinary learning
