SUMMARY:
The Masters School Department of Modern & Classical Languages seeks a Spanish teacher who is flexible and collaborative in planning, teaching, and assessing, and helps students take an active role in and responsibility for their own learning. Modern language faculty are committed to the student-centered Communicative Language approach in an immersion classroom environment, and work to help students cultivate intercultural competence as part of their path toward global citizenship.
Primary responsibilities are to teach four sections including multiple levels of Spanish. We seek candidates with strengths in curricular design and current pedagogical theory, and a particular orientation toward student-centered teaching. The ability to teach courses in a second language, French in particular, is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four sections of Spanish
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
Attend departmental and divisional meetings, as well as all school professional development events.
Participate in the life of the Upper School by attending full group activities (morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events) and by participating in non-teaching responsibilities, such as study hall, advising a club or coaching
REQUIREMENTS:
Three years Spanish teaching and advising experience
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish language/literature or Romance languages; advanced degree preferred
Understanding of and desire to work with upper school students
Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently
