This position includes the teaching of PK-5th grade drama classes on both Doherty and Lotspeich campuses for the 2026-2027 school year, until the lower schools unify on the Hillsdale Campus in 2027-2028.
The Lower School theater teacher designs and teaches a developmentally appropriate curriculum that spans the full range of theatrical experience: character development, puppetry, improvisation, and scene work. The position also includes responsibility for collaborating with music teachers for a variety of productions, including the 5th-grade musical. The ideal candidate brings genuine enthusiasm with the adaptability to engage and support students at every stage of their development.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching theater curriculum across Lower School graders with attention to age-appropriate skills and materials
Overseeing all aspects of production, including technical direction, lighting, sound, and costumes
Collaborating with other performing arts faculty across all divisions
Communicating clearly and warmly with students, faculty, and families
Maintaining an organized, energized, and inclusive classroom environment
Upholding the mission of The Seven Hills School
Reporting to the Head of Lotspeich and Head of Doherty for supervision and evaluation during the 2026-2027 school year, and the Head of the Doherty Lotspeich Lower School beginning in the 2027-2028 school year
Performing other teaching duties, ancillary duties, and record-keeping tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the division head
Qualifications:
Candidates must have, at a minimum, an undergraduate degree in the field, be knowledgeable about all aspects of production, and have the ability to work well with able and highly motivated students, as well as students with a range of learning differences.
Personal qualities sought include patience, energy, flexibility, empathy, and a sincere desire to work in close partnership with classroom teachers and families.
