The Town School, a nursery through 8th Grade co-educational school of 350 students on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, seeks an experienced 2nd through 4th Grade Literacy Specialist. Town embraces high academic and ethical standards for each student, and all members of the community are guided by our school motto, “Let there be joy in learning.”
The salary range for this position is $68,000 to $115,300. *Base salaries do not reflect additional compensation based on degree level, stipends, and years of service beyond step 20 on the salary scale.
Responsibilities:
Plan and implement specific instruction for students in targeted small pull-out groups as well as through push-in support.
Assess student progress regularly. Conduct observations and screenings to determine if a student is in need of additional literacy support.
Collaborate with teachers to support understanding of students’ learning needs and to differentiate classroom instruction.
Conduct team meetings in literacy curriculum for grades 3-4.
Work with the Academic Dean to review/discuss curricular cohesion in your division and school wide.
Oversee classroom assessments.
In collaboration with classroom teachers, communicate with parents about individual student strengths and challenges, goal setting, and progress.
Collaborate with the Guidance Team.
Coordinate support with outside tutors and remedial specialists.
Write mid-year and year-end literacy summary reports for students taught.
Communicate routinely progress monitoring information to families
Consult with the Admissions Office and assess applicants as needed.
Position Requirements
Master's degree in relevant field required.
3-5 years teaching experience in an elementary setting required.
Experience with SRSD, Readers/Writers Workshop, Fundations, Words Their Way.
Experience with revising curriculum to meet the needs of current students.
Experience differentiating instruction to best support students.
Experience incorporating technology in support of student learning.
