Context and Philosophy
Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for an Upper School History Teacher beginning August 2026. The position requires the successful candidate to be able to teach some combination of courses in our core sequence: Early World History (9th Grade), History of the Modern World (10th), U.S. and the World (11th), and electives. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience using technology in their teaching, collaborating with colleagues, teaching in a block schedule, and using a diversity of assessment techniques. All Upper School teachers participate in the full program of an independent school in addition to their classroom responsibilities.?
Advise a small group of students with whom you will progress through their years in the Upper School.
Fulfill responsibility in the co-curricular or extra-curricular life of the school including clubs, coaching, special event planning, field trips, seminars, etc.
Attend All-School Professional Days, Department meetings, and Upper School faculty meetings.
Help move the initiatives of the School forward by serving on committees and lending their expertise and voice.
Collaborate with teachers in their Department, within the division, and cross-divisionally.
Provide parents and administrators with written and oral reports that explain in detail how a child is progressing in the various areas of his/her educational experience.
Complete timely, detailed, and prescriptive progress reports, grades, and comments at regular intervals during the year for each student they teach.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and experience preferred
Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to understand and incorporate Quaker Principles and Quaker education into their work.
