POSITION SUMMARY
This position joins a creative and collaborative department known for its commitment to fostering a love of the arts that both challenges and inspires students. Fine Arts faculty members enjoy significant autonomy in developing curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments grounded in current research and developmentally appropriate practice. The ideal candidate is a motivated, creative, and flexible educator who thrives in an environment that encourages innovation, and supports the instrumental ensembles ranging from Middle School through Upper School. The Band Director will report to the Head of Middle School and the Head Upper School, and will work closely with academic and administrative staff across the campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Band program (grades 5-12) including band camp (begins two weeks before school starts), curriculum development, organization and implementation of all rehearsals and performances during the school year.
Prepare all instructional ensembles for participation in required events including concerts, assemblies, pep rallies, and graduation ceremonies.
Prepare ensembles (including through organization and fundraising) for adjudicated band competitions.
Create a positive environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the students’ maturity, interests and learning styles.
Utilize effective professional oral and written communication skills.
Attend all school faculty meetings and scheduled professional development sessions.
KEY STRENGTHS & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in music education (Master’s preferred)
3 to 5 years experience as a Band Director
Exceptional interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to respond thoughtfully to the diverse needs of students and their families.
Excellent work ethic, modeling respect, honesty, and integrity.
