Position Summary:
Kent School is seeking a Head Coach for Girls’ Rowing who is deeply committed to the growth and well-being of our students. The ideal candidate will bring a genuine love of the sport, strong technical and strategic rowing knowledge, and successful coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. This is an opportunity to build on a proud and competitive tradition. With the full support of an engaged administration and school community, the Head Coach will shape a comprehensive girls' rowing program that emphasizes athletic excellence, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
Serving in either a teaching role or department role in keeping with the mission, values, and standards established by Kent School.
Overseeing our girls' rowing program all three seasons.
Performing regular duty in our residential program (if hired as faculty).
Participating in Faculty committees (if hired as faculty).
Serving as Advisor to 5-7 students (if hired as faculty).
Maintaining Public Passenger Endorsement (PPE) to drive a school vehicle for school activities.

Facilitate player development using sport science.

Head Coach Duties and Responsibilities include:
Program Leadership & Strategic Planning:
Co-lead, in partnership with the Athletics Director, the development and execution of a three-year strategic plan for Kent Rowing.
Establish short- and long-term goals that strengthen program competitiveness, sustainability, and community engagement.
Team Culture & Student-Athlete Development:
Competitiveness and joy in the sport
Mental and physical toughness
Respect for the sport, opponents, and officials that sets a standard among peer schools
Full engagement in the Kent School community and consistent support of school values
Build, reinforce, and sustain a strong team culture centered on:
Mentor student-athletes in sportsmanship, leadership, resilience, and personal accountability.
Staff Leadership:
Build and lead a cohesive, supportive coaching staff ranging from highly experienced coaches to those newer to the sport.
Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development to ensure consistent coaching philosophy and instructional quality.
Recruitment & Program Growth:
Actively recruit and retain student-athletes in collaboration with admissions and school partners.
Serve as a visible ambassador for Kent Rowing within and outside of the school community.
Qualifications:
Previous experience coaching rowing (high school or college).
Strong understanding of rowing tactics, rules, and player development principles.
Excellent communication, leadership and motivational skills.
Ability to work evenings and weekends (to include travel).
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy boats and oars.
Capacity to endure long hours in varying weather conditions.
Demonstrated ability to tread water and swim meters.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
