Job Description
Title: Assistant Director
Position Description:
The Assistant Director supports the Elementary School Director in fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous school environment. This role provides leadership in advancing student well-being, ensuring access to the curriculum, and strengthening instructional practices. With a strong focus on student support systems, including Student Success Teams (SST), the Assistant Director works collaboratively with faculty and families to promote student growth and success. The role also contributes to faculty development, effective communication with parents, and the smooth operation of the school.
About Brawerman East:
Brawerman East Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) operating in the Erika J Glazer Campus in Mid-Wilshire, adjacent to the historic Magnin-Leder Sanctuary. Since its opening in 2011, Brawerman East has offered an outstanding academic program rooted in Jewish values that nurtures students' cogånitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual lives. Small by design, Brawerman East is a tight-knit, nurturing community with high faculty collaboration and an active, supportive parent body. The elementary school is part of Wilshire Schools East, which also houses the Glazer Early Childhood Center.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a member of the Brawerman East administrative leadership team.
In close partnership with the Principal and Head of School, provide support for teachers and specialists in all areas of instruction and classroom management.
Design and implement appropriate professional development, in collaboration with the Directors and Head of School to support staff in effectively and engagingly executing the curriculum, including summer orientation, Professional Learning Meetings, and Professional Days.
Work with teachers to ensure individual student academic progress, including connecting school resources, coordinating with outside support providers, facilitating Student Success Team meetings, and ensuring implementation of specific accommodations/modifications/learning plans.
Partner with the Principal to oversee the smooth operations of the elementary school, including class schedules, holiday programming, enrichment programs, and supervision duties.
Coordinate substitute procedures and class coverage.
Proactively engage parents, developing relationships and partnerships throughout the school.
Support admissions and advancement efforts, including planning and leading tours and admissions events, monitoring inquiries and applications, and coordinating the assessment of prospective students for readiness to enroll in Brawerman.
Act as an ambassador and school representative in Temple and community events, and at all times.
Assist the Head of School and Principal with screening, interviewing, and hiring faculty and staff members for the Elementary School.
Assist with the year-long onboarding of new teachers for Brawerman East
Other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Head of School and/or Principal.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Successful track record of reflection, collaboration, curriculum assessment and design, teacher supervision and support, and working with a wide range of learners.
High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic, nurturing, and highly collaborative atmosphere.
Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
Strong understanding and use of educational technology.
Compassion, understanding, and patience when speaking with students, families, Temple congregants, and faculty/staff.
The ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects with an eye to detail and quality of experience for participants.
Model a positive, warm, and caring disposition while always maintaining professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in educational leadership preferred.
Teaching credential (preferred) with a minimum of five years teaching experience, preferably within independent schools.
A background in special education is a strong advantage.
Compensation:
$85,000-$100,000 based on experience and qualifications
Salary is based on employment from August 2026 through June 2026, paid over twelve months
