Position Summary:
The long-term leave replacement in 7th and 8th Grade Science teaches 4 sections. This position reports to the Middle School Director. The length of leave is estimated to be late August through late November.
Classes meet five out of every seven days. The individual has a passion for working with Middle School learners, is skilled at meeting the needs of different learning styles and has a willingness to collaborate across and between divisions. The position includes working with an Advisory group and has other Middle School duties such as lunch, recess, and conference time. The teacher is patient, encouraging, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage. The individual has a love for the outdoors and is enthusiastic about embracing and utilizing the School’s diverse property.
Grade 7 Science – The Grade 7 science theme, “Organization in the World,” is an exploration of the ways in which organizational structure provides function to life, the distribution of natural resources among Earth’s living organisms, and how the human population may disrupt such organizational systems.
Grade 8 Science – The Grade 8 science theme, “The World at Different Scales,” studies how atomic and molecular interactions build all chemicals and objects surrounding us, the ways in which forces big and tiny affect the hydrosphere and atmosphere, and how Earth, the Sun, and other celestial bodies comprise the universe.
Responsibilities:
Teach four (4) sections.
Commitment to helping students outside of class time as needed (during meeting time, before or after school).
Collaborate with members of the Middle School Science department to align lesson plans and curriculum.
Submit grades and academic narrative comments.
Participate in divisional, departmental, and grade-team meetings.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Middle School Director.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics, science education, or a related related field
Excellence in teaching at the Middle School level.
Skilled at meeting the needs of different learning styles.
Willingness to collaborate across and between divisions.
Requires prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
Must be able to work in noisy environments.
Compensation range: $55,000 - $80,000 *Prorated for the length of coverage.
