Position Summary and Overview - Lower School Math Specialist
Reporting to the Lower School Division Director, the Math Specialist works collaboratively with the lower school team including teachers, related service providers and the K-12 Math Department Coordinator. The Math Specialist plans and implements research-based instructional approaches and administers assessments while supporting math teachers.

Duties and Responsibilities*
Instructional Planning and Teaching
Support students by providing expert service through individual, small group and whole class instruction, both pull-out and push-in settings, using a systematic, multisensory approach to instruction.
Modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students with language-based learning disabilities.
Utilize educational technology to enhance instruction, engagement, and accessibility.
Design and administer assessments to measure student progress and inform instructional decisions.
Support the development of students’ executive functioning skills.
Classroom Management and Student Support
Maintain an organized, consistent classroom management system.
Supervise students during group activities, lunch, recess, transition, and other duties as assigned, facilitating social skills and problem-solving when appropriate.
Participate and supervise community building activities.
Collaboration and Coaching
Engage in collaborative planning with all members of the instructional team, emphasizing the individual needs of learners, to plan and implement curriculum, units of study, projects and activities.
Provide ongoing instructional support to math teachers.
Seek improved methods of best practice with regard to math instruction for students with language-based learning disabilities through professional development opportunities.
Support teachers by providing professional development related to all areas of math instruction.
Communication
Communicate regularly and professionally with colleagues to ensure alignment across content areas and student support services.
Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with families regarding student progress, concerns, and successes.
Maintain accurate student records, including assessments, conference notes, and attendance.
Attend relevant staff meetings and school events as required.
Coordinate required materials for and attend CSE meetings, when appropriate. *Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
BA/BS Degree in Math Education, Elementary Education, Special Education; MA/MS preferred
NYS Teacher Certification in relevant content preferred
A minimum of five years of relevant experience
Familiarity with Singapore Approach and multi-sensory instruction
Experience providing math intervention to students
Proven ability to establish a positive learning environment with effective classroom management and behavior-support practices.
Experience in peer mentoring or team leadership, with the ability to support colleagues, share ideas, and offer constructive feedback
Familiarity interpreting and utilizing assessment data to inform decisions
Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
High degree of technology proficiency, including comfort with educational platforms and student information systems
Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
Compensation:
This is a 10-month, in-person role with a start date of August 2026. The salary range for this position is $80-115K commensurate with experience.
